The northernmost of the Gothic kingdoms bordering Dunloch and Novakan Republic in the West and Koroviski in the East.
Politics and Leadership
Kiaser Whilhem III has been moving the nation from a feudal society to an absolutist one and is having some success but elements of the feudal systems (namely private armies) are still in place.
Now in his decrepid 60s, Frederick leaves day to day rule to the boisterous, chivalrous but rash Crown Prince George who’s racist warlike influence can be seen in recent policies towards the Kingdom’s non-Gothic neighbours (and the Republican Novakans.) The nation’s adoption of Revisionisim has angered their High Adrianist Gothic neighbours and a religious war seems in the offing.
Several key Dukes (Von Hesting, Von Hestingdahl and Von Mentburg) tried to lead a coup but were betrayed and their estates divided between the Crown and their betrayers. They had some support amongst the High Nobility while Barons seem to favour the King seeing him as defending them against their immediate overlords.
While the nobility continue to have Knights in service and be able to levy peasants the cost of plate means that their equestrian forces are smaller than they once were. Mercenary halberdiers (Landsknechte) supplement the nobles forces .
The Kings Army consists of the Royal Lancers armed with lance and some rare carbines, the Kings Companies of Foot (Pikemen) and further Landsknechte hired for brief contracts. Royal Castles are manned by the King’s Castiliers and his hunting forests provide the Royal Jagers (longbow armed rangers.) Uniforms are the Nushrushan Cross on a white field except for the Jagers who wear green tunics and trouers with a hunting cap and wear a cross broach on the left breast.
The Army is commanded by the Crown Prince with officers hired from the lower nobility, bourgoise or foreign mercenaries.
The Kingdom owns no Navy.
80% Gothic (99% of the nobility) with large Koroviski peasant communities in the Eastern borderlands of Pomeravia. Valtburg and Karnstein forming 10% of the population. In southern Pomeravia, Karnstein and Latveria Kradrack nomads form 3% of the population. Scandiavian immigrants form 5% of the population and 1% Elaine in the south west,
Economy and Technology
Very agricultural and primary sector industries or mining and forestry are the next largest portion of the economy. Roads are poor and rivers are the main transport thoroughfares. Technology is late medieval .
Class Controls and Judiciary
The nobility are largely inbred but a few merchants are being given titles at the King’s largesse. Serfdom still exists for 20% of the population (disproportionately amongst Koroviski) even Gothic peasants are firmly in thrall to their local lords. There is much manouvering within the nobility for the Crown Prince’s favour.
In the countryside the local Lord dispenses the King’s Justice as they see fit – usually featuring trial by ordeal. In Royal cities the King’s Governors who appoint magistrates (usually nobles) to preside over trials and judge the lower classes. They can call on the local Royal garrison or appoint a City Marshal to muster a City Watch. Local lords often delegate day-to-day justice to a Sheriff.
